Carrabassett Valley, MAINE – The Colby-Sawyer men's and women's alpine ski teams debuted in their 2021-22 season on January 14
th at the Colby Carnival hosted by Colby College on Sugarloaf Mountain.
Overview:
After a two-year pause on collegiate competition due to the global pandemic, the alpine ski team hit the slopes on Friday, January 14
th as they participated in the Giant Slalom after an hour delay caused by heavy fog. The men's team placed 13
th with a total of eight points. Unfortunately, the women did not place on day one. Saturday's Slalom was postponed to Sunday, the 16
th due to high winds and in climate weather. The men scored 16 points, placing 13
th again with the women scoring 10 to also earn the 13
th spot.
Men's:
During the Giant Slalom, sophomore
Chesley Smith (Stowe, VT.) was the lone Charger to qualify for a second run. Despite being stripped of his first collegiate season, the rookie placed 39
th of 74 with a final run time of 1:48.27, earning his team eight points.
Day two saw more action as two Chargers on the men's side qualified for the second run during the Sunday Slalom. Smith placed 39
th, once again, with a final time of 2:01.29. Sophomore
Jared Marshall (Denmark, Maine) followed behind five places later with a final run time of 2:07.18, earning the team six points, on top of Smith's ten.
Women's:
Three of the six participating Chargers finished their first run of the Giant Slalom with senior
Ashley Humphreys (Lyndeborough, N.H.) leading the pack, recording a run time of 57.62.
Humphreys was the lone Charger for the women to receive a shot at the second run of the Sunday Slalom. The senior placed 38
th of 71 skiers with a final time of 2:01.34, earning her team 10 points.

Back on January 31
st, 2020, senior
Cam Carey (Newton, N.H.) participated in the Giant Slalom in the Colby Carnival, logging a run time of 1:02.56. This past weekend, the veteran posted a 55.06 run time, cutting his new personal record down by almost eight total seconds.

Both the Colby-Sawyer men's and women's alpine team will travel to Smugglers Notch in Jeffersonville, Vermont to compete in another Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) carnival, hosted by Saint Michael's College on January 21-22.
