Box Score NEW LONDON, NH- The women's basketball team started their 2021-2022 campaign with a loss to NVU Lyndon, 73-46.
RAPID RECAP:
The Chargers opened the night up trying to claw themselves out of a 14-8 deficit, with the Hornets taking over the turnover battle less than eight minutes into the first quarter.
From there, it was all Lyndon as they took the lead for the rest of the game.
First year
Marissa Holt (Alfred, ME) lead the Chargers on the night, going 5-10 from the field and 4 defensive rebounds. She led the team in total points for the night with 12.
Junior
Ameesah Cotten (Newburg, N.Y.) lead the team with seven total rebounds, four of them being offensively. Less than five minutes into the second quarter, junior
Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) shot a 3-pointer off an assist from First year,
Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) to cut the deficit to 15-29.
Lucertini led the Chargers with the most assists of the game with 5 and recorded 4 rebounds and two steals in her collegiate debut.
With two minutes left on the clock, Cotton took advantage of a defensive rebound and made a pass to first year Megan Molettri (Pelham, NH) who displayed an outstanding layup to set the score at 46-67.
After two NVU 3 pointers and a free throw miss by Cotton, the Hornets took off the remaining time on the clock to win the game, 73-46.
