Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Comes up Short against Emmanuel, 2-1

NEW LONDON, N.H.- The women's soccer team fell behind Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Emmanuel College (5-5-0), 2-1 at Kelsey Field on Monday afternoon.

The Saints began with a 1-0 lead when Sophomore Addie LeGault scored the first goal in the high left corner of the net with 3:24 into the first half, denying junior goalkeeper Alexis Lebreton (Bangor, Maine) any chance of keeping the game a scoreless affair. The Chargers tried to equalize the 1-0 deficit as first-year Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass) took a shot that was blocked by Emmanuel goalkeeper Lexi Della Rocco, to keep the shutout going.
Things only became harder for the Chargers offense as Saints' Sophomore Addie Legault scored the second goal of the evening at 35:33 to extend the lead to a 0-2 lead in favor of the Saints.

After an offsides against Emmanuel and a failed corner kick, the Chargers began the second half with a desperate need to respond. And a response it was as O'Connell seized the opportunity at minute 80:27 taking a shot off of the low center of the goal to cut the deficit to down to one and making the official score of the game, 1-2. The Chargers took one more chance to even the game as sophomore midfielder Kara Keiper (Peterborough, NH) took a shot that went out left from the goalie box, denying the Chargers any chance of an equalizer and giving Emmanuel the 1-2 victory for the afternoon.

Coaches Corner:
"That was a program-defining performance. We played the best soccer we have ever played with the added pressure of losing our typical match preparation routine to academic obligations. Success is a process, not a result. I'm so proud of them." - Head Coach Grace Sokolow

Up Next:
The Chargers drop to 4-8 on the year and 4-6 in conference play. They will return to Kelsey Field on October 23rd to face GNAC rival University of Saint Joseph (9-2-0) at 1:00pm.
