NEW LONDON, N.H. – July 19, 2019 – Colby-Sawyer College field hockey and women's lacrosse coach Emily Rinde-Thorsen has announced that she will step down to spend more time with her family.
"For the past nine years, I have been fortunate to coach the most dedicated and hardest working student-athletes on the Colby-Sawyer field hockey and lacrosse teams," said Emily. "I will miss each and every one of them and my daily interactions on and off the field. Coaching them through their successes and challenges has been a joy. I hope that I have taught them a fraction of what they have taught me. I also want to extend my thanks to the Colby-Sawyer Athletics department and Athletic Directors
George Martin and
Bill Foti for their guidance and support during my career. I am looking forward to the opportunity to spend more time with my three girls as they grow and to be able to support them on the sidelines of their various activities and athletic events."
"I am sorry to see Emily depart Colby-Sawyer as she was an exceptional coach, educator and person," said Director of Athletics
George Martin. "She has done an outstanding job leading our field hockey and lacrosse programs for nearly a decade and has been an excellent mentor to our student-athletes. I am very grateful to Emily for all of her positive contributions to our student-athletes, our department and Colby-Sawyer College. I wish Emily, and her family, continued success in all future endeavors."
"Emily was a valued member of our team in Athletics," said Director of Athletics
Bill Foti. "Her enthusiasm and support for our student-athletes was contagious throughout our department. I wish her continued success in her new venture."
Emily has been the field hockey head coach since Colby-Sawyer reintroduced the sport to varsity status in 2011. She spent nine years at the helm, including one year as the club coach, building a successful program that saw an increase in wins for the first six seasons and has been above .500 the past three seasons with a record of 34-19. The team has also made a trip to the postseason four seasons in a row, reaching the semifinals in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) three times and most recently the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) semis last season.
Emily also spent eight seasons as the head coach of the lacrosse program compiling a 69-68 overall record. She led the team to a 6-5 record in the Commonwealth Coast Conference in her first season, a 28-15 record in the NAC and a 7-4 mark in the GNAC. The team has made the postseason 15 years in a row.
