Baseball Falls to Saint Joseph's of Maine in GNAC Twin Bill

STANDISH, Maine - April 19, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team fell by scores of 6-0 and 7-5 to Saint Joseph's of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader. 

Saint Joseph's improves to 27-8 overall and 12-2 in the GNAC. Colby-Sawyer is slated to host Castleton on Wednesday for a 9-inning non-conference tilt with the Spartans. 

GAME ONE - Saint Joseph's 6, Colby-Sawyer 0

The Monks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Greg Emanuelson. 

Saint Joseph's added two runs in the fourth and the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. 

In the sixth, Jared Gagne added an insurance run with a homerun. 

Jonathan Flynn and Zach Begin combined for the shutout. Begin finished with six strikeouts in four innings. 

Alec Burns led the Chargers with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. 

Derek Griffin was saddled with the loss after 4.2 innings of work and five runs allowed. Jack Cahill tossed 1.1 innings of relief with one run on two hits. 

GAME TWO - Saint Joseph's 7, Colby-Sawyer 5

Ronan Chisolm gave the Monks a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second with an RBI double. 

Colby-Sawyer then put across four runs in the top of the third with the aid of a couple of Saint Joseph's miscues. Danny McCrystal had an RBI single in the frame. 

The home team got a run back in the bottom of the third before erupting with five in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead. 

The Chargers were able to cut the deficit in the sixth with an RBI single from Alec Burns, but the Monks pitching staff closed the door to secure the 7-5 win. 

Jared Gagne went 4-for-4 to lead the Monks. Noah McDaniel knocked in two runs. 

McCrystal and Tim Unczur each had two hits for Colby-Sawyer.
