HANOVER, N.H. – March 20, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team defeated Saint Michael's of the Northeast-10 in Division II, 7-2, at the Boss Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-4 and will play Endicott on Friday back at the Boss Center on the campus of Dartmouth College. Saint Michael's drops to 3-7.
The Chargers took two of three doubles to begin the afternoon.
Alex Wright (St. Austell, Cornwall, England) and
Julius Lowman (Bavaria, Germany) combined for an 8-3 win at No. 2 over Matt Mosher and Jake Remillard. Colby-Sawyer's No. 3 duo of
Erik Antonacci (Bolton, Vt.) and
Mike White (Woburn, Mass.) also won their match by an 8-3 score over Ivan Llona and Tirth Barot. The Purple Knights took the top match behind strong play from Max Allen and Dan Foley who edged
Matt Burke (Milford, Conn.) and
Cam Lynch (Haverhill, Mass.), 8-6.
Colby-Sawyer won five singles match in straight sets to secure the 7-2 victory. Wright won at the top flight to move into a tie for fourth in all-time singles wins with 48. White (No. 2), Lynch (No. 3), Burke (No. 5) and Antonacci (No. 6) each posted a singles victory for the Chargers.
Llona outlasted Lowman at No. 4 to earn the Purple Knights a singles point. Lowman won the first set 6-1, but Llona battled back to take the second 7-6 (7-4). The players then squared off in a tie-break in the third with Llona coming out on top 10-8.
