NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 2, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team received goals from five players in Wednesday's 5-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Rivier.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the GNAC. The Chargers host Johnson & Wales on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Rivier falls to 2-5-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference. The Raiders travel to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday for a 1 p.m. GNAC contest.

Less than five minutes into the contest, Colby-Sawyer first-year Sophia Chirigotis (Merrimac, Mass.) notched her first goal of the season off a flick from first-year Sydney Jimmo (Shelburne, Vt.).

In the 23rd minute, the Chargers earned a corner kick. First-year Brenna Humphrey (Cornish, Maine) took the kick and bent the ball into the back corner of the net to put Colby-Sawyer on top 2-0.

Rivier cut the deficit in half, in the 57th minute, benefiting from an own goal as the ball was headed into the net by a Colby-Sawyer defender.

Colby-Sawyer then took the kickoff down the left side of the pitch. Senior Leah Dupuis (Concord, N.H.) beat the Rivier backline and found the back of the net, 12 seconds after Rivier's goal.

In the 61st minute, senior Molly MacLure (Westford, Mass.) put home a beautiful cross from first-year Abby Hamelin (Chesterfield, N.H.) to give Colby-Sawyer a 4-1 lead.

The Chargers added one more goal in the 84th minute when Chirigotis sent a perfect thru ball to Hamelin who deposited her fourth goal of the season into the net.

Colby-Sawyer senior goalie Sam Mitchell (Chester, N.H.) stopped one shot to earn the win. Senior Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) made eight saves for Rivier.
