STANDISH, Maine - January 15, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team suffered its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game of the season on Tuesday evening. The Chargers fell to nationally ranked Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
The Monks, ranked 11th in the D3hoops.com poll and 12th in the WBCA poll, remained perfect on the season, improving to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Colby-Sawyer had its six-game win streak snapped to drop to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in the GNAC. The Chargers will return home on Saturday to host Albertus Magnus.
Colby-Sawyer was led by junior
Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine). She scored 17 points on 8-of-13 from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior
Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) finished with 16 points and eight assists.
The home team was led by Kelsi McNamara's 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Julia Champagne added 11 points, while Hannah Marks contributed 10 points.
St. Joe's shot 48% (28-58) from the field, but half of their buckets came from beyond the arc. The Monks also won the battle of the boards 42-29.
