Field Hockey Sinks NEC, 3-1

HENNIKER, N.H. - September 26, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team earned a 3-1 victory over intrastate rival New England College on Wednesday evening.

The Chargers improve to 6-3 and will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday at Saint Joseph's (ME) at 11 a.m. NEC drops to 1-7.

The first half did not yield too many scoring opportunities for each side, but Colby-Sawyer held a 6-3 advantage in shots and took three corners.

The Chargers turned up the offensive pressure in the second half and broke the tie less than two minutes in on a goal from Rachel Fisher. She was assisted by Julia Lanctot

Less than three minutes later, Colby-Sawyer doubled its lead when Sierra Schuster finished a feed from Alie Jones

In the 46th minute, Schuster returned the favor and set up Jones to put the Chargers on top 3-0. Jones ripped a shot from just inside the circle that made its way through the defenders and into the back of the cage for her fifth goal of the year.

NEC finally broke through in the 49th minute with a goal from Sofia Castriotta.

Abby Ladd made eight saves to earn her sixth victory of the season. Christine McNeil made four saves for the Pilgrims.

Colby-Sawyer finished the game with an 18-14 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corners.
