NEWPORT, R.I. – September 21, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team competed at the Grass Court Doubles Championships held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in beautiful Newport, R.I. on Friday.

Colby-Sawyer finished tied for fourth with six points after earning two points in each of the three flights.  

The Chargers' top duo of sophomore Yashu Yang (Kunming City, China) and first-year Anna Kopituk (Morristown, Tenn.) dropped their first match of the day to a tandem from Nichols College, 8-4. Yang and Kopituk rebounded nicely and won their next two matches in the consolation bracket against teams from Division I Holy Cross, 8-4, and Salve Regina, 8-0.

In Flight B, Colby-Sawyer senior duo Aislinn O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn.) and Maddy Gemerek (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) earned an 8-0 win over Salve Regina, but then fell to Holy Cross, 8-4.

The Flight C tandem of junior Alexa Conlin (Westborough, Mass.) and senior Hilary Boucher (Presque Isle, Maine) won their first match against Saint Joseph, 8-0. Boucher and Conlin then dropped an 8-1 match to Holy Cross.

The team resumes dual match competition tomorrow at Albertus Magnus. The two teams last met in 1994.
