Jordan Teixeira's Two Goals Lift Chargers Past JWU in OT, 2-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 15, 2018 – Senior Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead the Colby-Sawyer field hockey team to a 2-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Johnson & Wales.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Chargers will step out of conference action to host Castleton on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Johnson & Wales dips to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference action. The Wildcats travel to Clark on Thursday for a 7 p.m. contest.

After a scoreless first half, the Chargers broke the drought 20 minutes into the second frame. Teixeira found the back of the cage with her team leading fourth goal of the season.

With time winding down, Johnson & Wales was awarded a penalty stroke. Sophomore Natalie Rivas (Andover, N.J.) was able to get the ball past the Colby-Sawyer goalie to knot the game at 1-1 with less than a minute to play.

The game headed to overtime between the two evenly matched sides. After five minutes of scoreless play with each team taking a shot, Teixeira sent the Chargers home with the victory by finishing a feed from sophomore Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) with 4:50 showing on the clock. The goal was Teixeira's 24th of her career to give her a program record 67 points.

The Chargers held a slim 12-10 edge in shots, while Johnson & Wales had the advantage in penalty corners, 7-6.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) earned the win with three saves. Senior goalie Claire Nolan (West Bridgewater, Mass.) had six stops for the Wildcats.
