NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 19, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team fell to former conference foe Castleton University, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.

Colby-Sawyer drops to 4-3 and will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday with a noon home match against Rivier. Castleton, now of the Little East Conference, improves to 4-2. The Spartans play at Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday at noon.

Castleton put across the game's first goal in the 20th minute. Junior Olivia Trevisani (Colchester, Vt.) found the back of the cage for the first time this season off a feed from senior Sarah Wells (Bellows Falls, Vt.).

Colby-Sawyer quickly responded with the equalizer less than two minutes later. Sophomore Marissa Nance (Sanford, Maine) also scored her first goal of the season. Senior Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) was credited with her second assist of the season.

The Spartans took a 2-1 lead in the 26th minute. Wells set up teammate Loretta Blakeney (Barnard, Vt.) with her second goal of the season.

The lone goal of the second half came from Castleton to account for the 3-1 score. Sophomore Gabriella Hunt (Granville, N.Y.) snuck a ball past the goalie with her third tally of the season. Wells was credited with her third assist of the game.

Junior goalie Tashia Pashby-Rockwood (Williston, Vt.) did not have to make any saves to earn her fourth victory of the season. Sophomore goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) had three saves in the loss.
