WOBURN, Mass. – May 12, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team fell to #11 MIT, 5-0, in Saturday's NCAA Tournament Second Round held at the Woburn Racquet Club.

The Chargers end another historic season at 17-6 having reached the NCAA second round for the third consecutive season. MIT will play regional host #6 Tufts tomorrow at noon.  

The Chargers' top duo of senior Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) and freshman Yashu Yang (Kunming City, China) battled tough with the fifth ranked doubles team in the region from MIT. Elysa Kohrs and Libby Rickerman came away with an 8-3 win to put the Engineers in front 1-0. At No. 2, Colby-Sawyer senior Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) and junior Aislinn O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn.) played a hard fought match against Dora Tzeng and Sonya Das, but fell 8-2. Junior Maddy Gemerek (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and senior Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) teamed at No. 3 and dropped an 8-2 decision to Lara Rakocevic and Kelly Zhu.

The Engineers secured the match with straight-sets wins by Tzeng and Marina Zhang at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

In an unfinished match, Woodside battled the second ranked singles player in the Northeast, Kohrs, at the top flight. After dropping the first set 6-0, Woodside took three games off of Kohrs in the second set (5-3) when the match was secured by MIT.

At No. 2 singles, Yang played the ninth ranked player in the region, Rickerman, and also took three games when the match was called. The first set was 6-2 and the second was 4-1.
