NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 24, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team fell to Middlebury College, 3-0, in non-league action Wednesday evening. The Panthers won by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-16.
Middlebury improves to 15-5 and will host Hamilton on Friday at 7 p.m. Colby-Sawyer drops to 17-10 and will host Plymouth State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Panthers hit .348 in the first set and raced out to a 10-3 lead capped by a pair of Maggie Wise (Winchester, Va.) kills en route to the 25-16 victory. Colby-Sawyer senior
Courtney Murray (Quincy, Mass.) had four kills in the frame to lead all players.
The second set featured seven ties and four lead changes. The Chargers led 8-6, but Middlebury scored the next four points to go in front and never look back. The Panthers posted 15 kills and three aces in the set. Freshman Corley Doyle (San Francisco, Calif.) had a set best five kills.
The efficient offensive attack for the visitors lifted them once again in the third. Middlebury hit .333 and had 16 kills, while holding the Colby-Sawyer attack to five. Middlebury sophomore Shea Golden (Greenville, N.C.) and senior Sarah Staver (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) led the attack with six and five kills, respectively.
Golden led all players in the match with 10 kills. She added 13 digs. Doyle hit .667 to finish with eight kills, while Staver added nine on .400 hitting. Sophomore Emma Walsh (Wichita, Kan.) tallied a match best 21 assists. Junior Gigi Alper (Mill Valley, Calif.) collected 14 digs.
Colby-Sawyer was led by a nine-kill effort from junior
Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.). She added two solo blocks and three block assists. Junior
Morgan Flynn (Reading, Mass.) led the team with 14 digs. Murray finished with five kills.
