NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 18, 2018 – The top-seeded Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team will play fourth-seeded Regis College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament semifinals on Saturday at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center.
The Chargers (8-2) earned the top seed after posting a perfect 7-0 regular season conference record and earned a bye in the first round. Regis (8-3) was the fourth seed with a 4-3 conference record. The Pride defeated fifth seed Suffolk, 5-1, in first round action on Wednesday afternoon.
In the team's meeting earlier this season, Colby-Sawyer defeated Regis by an 8-1 score. The teams will battle in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m.
In the other first round match on Wednesday, third-seeded Johnson & Wales defeated sixth-seeded Simmons, 5-0, to advance to the semifinals and face second-seeded Eastern Nazarene. JWU (11-4) went 5-2 in conference play, while Eastern Nazarene (10-1) suffered just one loss, which was to the Chargers, to finish 6-1.
Eastern Nazarene and JWU will play following the Colby-Sawyer and Regis match at approximately 4:30 p.m. Winners of both matches will square off on Sunday in Winchester in the GNAC Championship with a trip to the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament at stake next spring.
The Colby-Sawyer and Eastern Nazarene tennis programs are in their first year with the GNAC.
