NEWPORT, R.I. - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team made its annual trip to the International Tennis Hall of Fame to compete at the Grass Court Doubles Tournament hosted by Salve Regina on Friday. The Chargers finished second out of eight teams with 10 points.

Yashu Yang reached the Flight A finals before falling in a hard fought match to Cassie Burbine and Julia Chappell of Division II Assumption College, 8-6. Woodside and Yang began the afternoon by cruising to an 8-4 victory over the Division I tandem from Holy Cross Morgan McGuire and Allie Reilling. The Colby-Sawyer duo then continued their impressive play by defeating Izzy Leonardi and Amie Settingwongse of Nichols in convincing fashion, 8-2, to hand the duo just their second loss of the season.

Evelyn Miller and
Aislinn O'Connor also reached the finals of their Flight B. Unfortunately, the duo also fell to a twosome from Division II Assumption, Maria Monje and Valeria Sanchez, 8-3. Miller and O'Connor reached the finals after an 8-1 victory over Salve Regina duo Darcy Carlin and Priscilla Gaspard in the first round. Colby-Sawyer then downed Katie Elia and Katya Martin of Division I Holy Cross in impressive fashion, 8-5.
Lauren Blanchard and
Maddy Gemerek teamed for Flight C action and won a pair of matches. After dropping a first round contest to Assumption College, 8-4, the duo rebounded with an 8-6 triumph over Meg Lewis and Jen Kary from Holy Cross. Blanchard and Gemerek then ended the day by winning the Consolation C match over the Johnson & Wales tandem of Kat Ledesma and Gabriela Velasquez, 8-5.
The team will resume dual match action on Saturday at Thomas and Sunday at Husson before returning home to conclude the regular season on Monday against Lyndon.
