Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 20, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team swept Green Mountain, 9-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Wednesday afternoon at the Kelsey Tennis Courts.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Chargers will make their annual trip to the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Friday to compete at the Grass Court Doubles Tournament. Green Mountain dips to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the NAC. The Eagles will continue conference action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home match against Thomas.
The Chargers took all three doubles matches by an 8-0 score. Junior
Aislinn O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn.) and senior
Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) recorded a win at the top flight over sophomores Jannelle O'Connell (Colrain, Mass.) and Claire Chapman (Litchfield, Conn). Junior
Maddy Gemerek (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) teamed with senior
Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) for a No. 2 win against senior Paige Vlahos (Little Silver, N.J.) and sophomore Lauren Coye (Plainstow, N.H.). The No. 3 Colby-Sawyer tandem of senior
Christine Hill (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior
Michelle Lopes (West Hartford, Conn.) found success over seniors Ruby Santiago (Worcester, Mass.) and Danjung Yoon (Daejeon, South Korea).
Senior
Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) and freshman
Yashu Yang (Kunming City, China) won at the top two singles flights by 6-0, 6-0 scores, while Miller came away with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the third spot.
O'Connor and Blanchard also won without dropping a game at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, while sophomore
Alexa Conlin (Westborough, Mass.) picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win in the sixth slot.
