Baseball Splits NAC Opening Doubleheader at Husson

BANGOR, Maine - April 8, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team earned a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader split at Husson University on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles won game one 7-2, while Colby-Sawyer took game two 8-1. 

Colby-Sawyer goes to 7-7 overall and 1-1 in the NAC. Husson is now 10-8 overall and 4-2 in conference action. The two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon. 

GAME ONE - Husson 7, Colby-Sawyer 2

Husson opened the game with four straight singles in the bottom of the first and put six runs on the board to chase Colby-Sawyer's starting pitcher. 

The Eagles added a run in the second on an RBI single from Luke Covey. 

Colby-Sawyer got a pair of runs back in the sixth when Tim Unczur knocked in Justin Devoid and Nathan Frongillo on a single to right center. Unczur ended the day 3-for-3 at the plate to account for half of the Chargers' six hits. 

Chris Mitchell Jr. suffered his first loss of the season for the Chargers. Jake Greaney tossed 5.1 innings of relief and surrendered just one run and struck out three. Ben Wells got the win for the Eagles after going the first six innings. He gave up two runs (1 earned) on five hits. Cody Collins finished the game with a scoreless inning of relief. 

GAME TWO - Colby-Sawyer 8, Husson 1

The Chargers struck first in the second game with a pair of runs in their first at-bat. Brendan Thurber knocked in Nathan Frongillo and Tim Unczur to put Colby-Sawyer on top 2-0. 

Colby-Sawyer then scored four times in the top of the second to take a 6-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Frongillo came up with the big hit clearing the bases with a triple. Justin Devoid then hit a sac fly to center to score Frongillo. 

Husson's lone run came in the third on an RBI groundout from Ryan Rebar.

Tim Unczur continued to swing a hot bat on Saturday when he hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Later in the inning, Thurber closed the scoring with an RBI fielder's choice to give Colby-Sawyer the 8-1 lead. 

Colby-Sawyer pitcher Michael Fazio was impressive on the mound. He scattered nine hits and gave up just one run in the complete game victory. He also struck out five Eagles. 

Frongillo finished with three hits to give him 121 for his career, which ranks 15th all-time. He also scored three times and had three RBIs. Thurber also had three RBIs. Unczur had his second multi-hit game of the day with a pair of knocks and three runs scored.
