AUBURNDALE, Fla. - March 17, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Springfield on Friday at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. The Pride won game one 5-0 and game two 12-4.
The Chargers finish their spring break trip at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 5-6 record.
GAME ONE - Springfield 5, Colby-Sawyer 0
Springfield pitcher Brian Johnson faced the minimum and allowed only two Colby-Sawyer runners to reach base who were erased on double plays by the next hitters. He recorded a no-hitter and struck out seven.
Ryan Glendye took the loss and finished with five strikeouts. Senior
Brandon Cawley (Abington, Mass.) pitched a scoreless inning of relief in his debut appearance.
GAME TWO - Springfield 12, Colby-Sawyer 4
Colby-Sawyer got on the board in its first at-bat to start game two. Senior
Justin Devoid (Quechee, Vt.) knocked in junior
Doug Avellino (Woodstock, Vt.).
Springfield answered with a pair in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI ground out and single.
The Chargers retook the lead in the second with pair of runs. Junior
Tim Donovan (Litchfield, N.H.) had an RBI double to center and then came around on a run-scoring triple from Avellino.
The Pride responded with the tying run in the bottom of the third and then scored five unearned runs to take an 8-3 lead after three frames. Springfield added two more runs in the fourth and fifth.
Devoid plated the Chargers' fourth run of the game in the fifth on a double to left center that scored junior
Brady Dion (Sabattus, Maine).
Junior
Quincy Logan (Houston, Texas) tossed a scoreless inning of relief in his first appearance and struck out one.
Devoid and Avellino each had a pair of hits to lead the Colby-Sawyer hitters.
