Women's Basketball Falls in NAC Semifinals at Husson

BANGOR, Maine - February 24, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell to regionally ranked and top seed Husson University, 87-49, in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) semifinals on Friday evening.

The Eagles improve to 21-4 and will play for the NAC title tomorrow against the winner of tonight's other semifinal game between New England College and Castleton. Colby-Sawyer ends its season at 18-9.

Colby-Sawyer post players junior Emmani Robinson and freshman Tianna Sugars did the damage on the offensive end for the Chargers. Each player finished with 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Robinson was named to the All-Tournament Team. Sugars went 3-for-6 and finished the season with the fourth best field goal percentage in program history at .569. Senior Lexi Iannone added a team best eight rebounds and made one three-pointer to give her 160 career makes and tie Colby-Sawyer Athletic Hall of Famer Beth (Chartier) Tower for fifth all-time. Husson's Kenzie Worcester led all scorers with 28 points. Sami Ireland came off the bench to record a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Darla Morales finished with 13 points.

The Chargers began the game with a 5-2 run after a Ally Mignault layup and an Iannone trey, but the home team turned up the pressure on both ends of the floor and finished the quarter with a 28-9 lead. Worcester scored 13 of her 28 points in the opening frame for the Eagles.

In the second quarter, Colby-Sawyer made an extra effort to get the ball in the paint and received six points apiece from Sugars and Robinson. Despite the inside efficiency for the Chargers, Husson was able to add to its lead by winning the quarter 21-15 and take a 49-24 lead at the half.

Husson came out of the break with hot shooting and finished the third making 7-of-15 shots, while hold Colby-Sawyer to two made field goals. The Eagles outscored the visitors 21-10 in the third. Husson went on for the win after a 17-15 edge in the fourth quarter.
