WATERVILLE, Maine – October 21, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team fell at Thomas College, 1-0, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular season finale.
Thomas improves to 2-12 overall and 1-4 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer drops to 9-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
The Terriers found the lone goal of the contest in the 27th minute. Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) sent a centering pass to Miranda Gagne (Winslow, Maine) who took a backhand shot that beat Charger freshman keeper
Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) to the right side for a 1-0 lead.
Colby-Sawyer looked tie the game up three minutes later as junior
Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) tried to chip the ball over Thomas senior Jessica Russell (Pembroke, N.H.). Russell swatted the ball out to keep the Terriers' lead before the break.
The score remained the same throughout the second half as both teams struggled to create opportunities. Russell came up big in the 48th minute on a shot from junior
Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) and again in the 65th on senior
Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.).
Russell stopped all three shots in her first career win for Thomas, while Ladd had five saves in the loss.
Thomas held a 9-5 edge in shots and a 12-1 advantage in corners.
