WESTON, Mass. - October 18, 2017 - Colby-Sawyer freshman goalie
Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) set a single-season record for shutouts with her fifth as the Chargers earned a 2-0 win at Regis on Wednesday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 9-6 and will travel to Thomas on Saturday for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular season finale. Regis drops to 7-7. The two teams will become regular conference opponents next season as Colby-Sawyer transitions to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Regis joined the GNAC this season. Colby-Sawyer holds a 4-1 record against the Pride having played in each of the past five season.
Ladd did not face any shots against the Pride, but picked up her ninth win of the season, which is second most in a single-season. She passed current assistant coach
Jodi Dumayne's '16 shutout record of four set in 2015.
Neither team was able to score in the first half as Colby-Sawyer held a 6-0 advantage in shots taken.
Colby-Sawyer finally struck in the 49th minute with the eventual game-winner off the stick of freshman
Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.). After Lanctot took a pair of shots that were save, she was able to put home the second rebound to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead.
The Chargers tacked on an insurance goal with 1:05 left on the clock. Senior
Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.) notched her team leading 10th goal of the season.
Colby-Sawyer outshot the Pride 19-2. Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) posted a season-high 13 saves in the loss for Regis.
