Field Hockey Falls to UMF on Senior Day, 3-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 14, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team fell to UMaine-Farmington, 3-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on a beautiful fall afternoon at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.

Prior to the game, Colby-Sawyer honored its six seniors for their years of commitment and dedication to the field hockey program. The seniors include Tricia Doody (Kennebunk, Maine), Jesse Murch (Poland, Maine), Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.), Ashley Mikkila (North Oxford, Mass.), Kaytlynn Kenney (Newport, N.H.) and Jenna Donahue (Walpole, Mass.).

UMF improves to 6-7 overall and 4-0 in the NAC, while Colby-Sawyer drops to 8-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

The first half was played in the middle of the field with not many scoring chances, resulting in a scoreless tie through 35 minutes.

The Beavers picked up the pressure in the second half an erupted for three goals on 12 shots. The visitors struck five minutes into the second frame on an Emmah Spahr (Winthrop, Maine) tally assisted from junior Emma Martineau (Greene, Maine). Two minutes later, Martineau scored a goal of her own with an assist from senior Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine).

Sophomore Nickyia Lovely (Gardiner, Maine) added an insurance goal with less than eight minutes to play to lift UMF to the 3-0 victory.

UMF keeper Alyssa Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine) earned the shutout with six saves. Colby-Sawyer freshman goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) had eight saves in the loss.
