NEWTON, Mass. – October 11, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team earned a 2-1 road win at Mount Ida on Wednesday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-5 and will host UMaine-Farmington on Saturday for an important North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tilt. Mount Ida, which will become a regular opponent to the Chargers next season as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), drops to 7-6. The Mustangs travel to Johnson & Wales on Saturday.
The Chargers went in front eight minutes into the first half when senior forward
Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.) scored her team leading ninth goal off an assist from sophomore
Hadley Woodfin (Marblehead, Mass.).
The game remained 1-0 at halftime with the Chargers holding an 11-2 shots advantage in the frame.
Each side recorded a goal on three shots in the second half to result in the final score of 2-1 in favor of Colby-Sawer.
The Chargers took a 2-0 lead with the eventual game-winner in the 56th minute off the stick of
Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.). She was set up by freshman
Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.).
Mount Ida was able to cut the deficit in half when Erin Esty (Gorham, Maine) was able to find the back of the cage off a pass from Sarah Hemstock (Northford, Conn.).
Freshman
Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) made one save in the win for Colby-Sawyer. Mount Ida goalkeeper Grace Ryan (Livermore Falls, Maine) finished with seven saves.
