Women's Basketball Defeated by Castleton

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 31, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell to Castleton, 69-43, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Tuesday evening.
   
Castleton improves to 11-8 overall and 9-3 in the conference. The Spartans will host Thomas and UMaine-Farmington this weekend. Colby-Sawyer drops to 13-7 overall and 8-5 in the NAC. The Chargers will celebrate senior day on Saturday at 3 p.m. as they host New England College.
 
Castleton's Makayla Farrara (Shaftsbury, Vt.) led all players with 20 points. She was 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and added a game best four steals. Junior Amanda Beatty (Williston, Vt.) scored 16 points, while senior Lindsay Sabo (Stanhope, N.J.) contributed 12 points. Freshman Alexis Queeneville (Orwell, Vt.) rounded out the four Spartans in double figures with 10 points off the bench. Junior Ashlie Fay (Monkton, Vt.) had eight assists.
 
Colby-Sawyer was led by senior Kristin Ellis (South Easton, Mass.). She had 12 points. Ellis also collected one block to give her 92 career swats and tie her with Sue Ganas '04 for ninth all-time. Junior Emmani Robinson (Newburgh, N.Y.) added seven points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Senior Ally Mignault (Billerica, Mass.) chipped in with eight points.
 
The Spartans took the first quarter 15-5 after holding Colby-Sawyer to one made field goal. Castleton forced five turnovers and outrebounded the Chargers 14-8 in the first ten minutes.
 
Farrara scored 10 points in the second quarter to keep a double-digit lead for Castleton throughout the frame. Colby-Sawyer scored 15 points in the stanza with 12 coming in the paint. Emmani Robinson scored six points to lead the Chargers, but the home team trailed 37-20 at the break.
 
The hot shooting from the Spartans continued into the third quarter as the team went 8-of-13 from the floor to double up Colby-Sawyer 22-11 and take a 59-31 lead into the fourth.
 
Colby-Sawyer won the fourth quarter 12-10 behind seven points off Castleton miscues, but the Spartans came away with the road victory.
