NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 20, 2017 – Senior Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team to a 58-44 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Thomas College.  

Colby-Sawyer improves to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the NAC. The Chargers will host UMaine-Farmington tomorrow at 3 p.m. Thomas falls to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in the conference. The Terriers will play at New England College tomorrow at 3 p.m.
 
Iannone made 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and finished with a game best 17 points. Colby-Sawyer junior Amanda Calvo (South Deerfield, Mass.) also reached double figures with 12 points. Freshman Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) contributed seven assists and six rebounds. Freshman Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) recorded eight points, four blocks and three steals.
 
Thomas was led by freshman Malorie Weaver (Palermo, Maine). Weaver had team highs of 11 points and seven rebounds. Junior Amira Jones (Chicopee, Mass.) added nine points and six rebounds. Freshman Karli Stubbs (Auburn, Maine) tallied five points, four rebounds and four steals.
 
The teams traded baskets in the first three minutes of action before Colby-Sawyer received buckets from Lexi Iannone and Ally Mignault (Billerica, Mass.) to take an 8-4 lead midway through the first. Thomas then closed the quarter with six straight points on baskets from three different players to take a 10-8 lead after 10 minutes.
 
Colby-Sawyer turned up the pressure on both ends of the floor in the second quarter and outscored the Terriers 15-2, holding them to 1-of-13 shooting. The Chargers turned six Thomas miscues into 11 points and used the fast break for a 10-0 advantage. Colby-Sawyer led 23-12 at the half.
 
The Chargers came out strong in the third and forced Thomas to turn the ball over, which resulted in 16 points. Colby-Sawyer shot 53.8% in the frame and outscored the Terriers 20-11 to take a 43-23 after three quarters.
 
Two minutes into the fourth, a Morgan Fogg (Sanford, Maine) jumper gave Colby-Sawyer its largest lead of the game at 50-23. Thomas was able to climb back to within 14 points behind Weaver and Abby Nielsen (North Yarmouth, Maine), but the Chargers came away with the 58-44 victory.
 
Colby-Sawyer went 7-of-16 from beyond the arc for the game. Thomas held a 37-36 edge on the glass.
