KEENE, N.H. - September 1, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team fell to a strong Keene State squad 7-0 in a season opener for both teams.
Keene State, which has appeared in the NCAA tournament the past four seasons, improves to 1-0 and will remain home for a date with the University of New England on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Colby-Sawyer drops to 0-1 and will play at Anna Maria on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Sami Smith led the Owls with a hat-trick. Kayla Renaud found the net twice and set up another goal, while freshman Jensyn Dandeneau and sophomore Erica Stauffer also scored.

Xena Ras made 10 saves for the Chargers. Gwendolyn Thayer played 53:43 in the cage and made four saves; freshman Jordan LaRaus came on for the final 16:17 and was not called upon to make a stop.
Jordan Teixeira led the Chargers with a pair of shots on target, while
Paige Viens,
Sierra Schuster and
Colleen Burke also took shots on the cage.
