Baseball Drops Doubleheader Season Finale at UMF

FARMINGTON, Maine – May 1, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped its final doubleheader of the season at the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday afternoon.

UMF improves to 23-14 overall and locked up a spot in the NAC Tournament with a 15-9 record. The Chargers end the season at 13-22 and 8-16. 

GAME ONE - UMF 4, Colby-Sawyer 0
 
Ben Keene produced the first run of the first game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to put UMF on top. Farmington added one more run in the frame after scoring on an infield error by the Chargers.
 
UMF used a two-out rally in the fifth inning to boost its lead to 3-0. Sean Cabaniss and Keene lined back-to-back singles before Tom Grady knocked in a run on a single to left field. 
 
A sac fly from Trevor Hisler in the sixth gave the home team the 4-0 lead. 
 
Kyle Peterson threw a complete game three-hitter in his final appearance at Hippach Field and earned his fifth win of the season.

Freshman Matt Daly went 4.2 for the Chargers. He allowed five hits and two earned runs and struck out four. Sophomore Andrew Clay threw the final 1.1 innings and gave up just one run.  

GAME TWO - UMF 9, Colby-Sawyer 1
 
The Beavers tallied four runs in the second inning and five more runs in the third inning to earn the twin bill sweep. Jimmy Neal was 2-for-3 with four RBI thanks to a home run in the third inning. Dustin McCrossin posted a pair of hits, runs, and RBI. McCrossin combined to hit 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI in the doubleheader.

Senior Jeff Dunn hit a lead-off homerun, which was the first of his collegiate career, in the fourth to account for the Chargers' lone run. 
 
Jory Humphrey picked up the win in game two. The senior allowed one earned run on three hits with one strikeout.

Colby-Sawyer Freshmen Joe Scurto and John White each made a scoreless relief appearance in the game.
