NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 24, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer College baseball team defeated Daniel Webster, 5-4 on senior day at Kelsey Field.  

Colby-Sawyer improves to 12-18 and will resume North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Lyndon at 2 p.m. Daniel Webster drops to 9-22 and will host Rivier tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Prior to the game, seniors Mike Bowse (Merrimack, N.H.), Jeff Dunn (Bellingham, Mass.), Shawn McCarthy (N. Waterboro, Maine) and Mike Peters (Melrose, Mass.) were honored for their dedication to the Colby-Sawyer baseball program.

The Chargers put a run on the board in their first at-bat as junior Jackson Musco (Litchfield, N.H.) came around on a throwing error as the Eagles tried to complete a double play.

Colby-Sawyer's offense then added three runs in the second. Sophomore Andrew Pratt (New Sharon, Maine) led off with a triple to right field and scored on an RBI single from Justin Devoid (Quechee, Vt.). Devoid scored later in the inning. Musco scored for the second time on an RBI double from sophomore Doug Avellino (Woodstock, Vt.).

Daniel Webster would cut the lead in half in the top of the third by scoring twice. Junior Dakota Williams (Hudson, N.H.) knocked both runs in with a single to left field.

The Chargers scored the eventual winning run in the sixth on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze from freshman Austin Butler (Saunderstown, R.I.) that scored pinch runner Shawn McCarthy.

The Eagles added single runs in the seventh and eighth. Williams knocked in his third run of the game in the seventh, while senior Devin DeCarteret (Pelham, N.H.) plated freshman Mike Habibi (Nashua, N.H.) in the eighth.  

Mike Peters took went the first three innings and gave up a pair of runs for the Chargers. Mike Bowse got the win after four strong innings of 3-hit, one run baseball. Junior Michael Fazio (Auburn, Mass.) earned his program record fourth save of the season with two innings of relief. He gave up one run (unearned) and struck out two.

Junior Nick Goodin (Dracut, Mass.) went the distance for the Eagles giving up three earned runs and struck out five.
