Women's Basketball Drops 51-40 Decision at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. - February 6, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's basketball team dropped a 51-40 decision at New England College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC)  action Saturday night. 

With the win the Pilgrims improve to 14-7 on the season and 8-6 in the NAC. The loss evens the Chargers' overall record at 10-10 overall and 7-7 in the NAC.

PILGRIM LEADERS

Majani Lillard posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Pilgrims. In addition to Lillard, NEC was led by Breana Ramirez who pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds and finished with eight points.  NEC's LaQuil McKnight and Utshana Durham each chipped in 11 points for the Pilgrims.

CHARGER LEADERS

Colby-Sawyer was led by Amanda Calvo who finished with a team-high nine points.  Marquis MacGlashing ripped down eight rebounds and had two blocks, while four other Chargers finished with five points.

FINAL COMPARISONS

NEC jumped out to a 20-5 lead with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Pilgrims would hold a lead for the remainder of the game despite Colby-Sawyer cutting the deficit to seven in the second quarter and eight in the second half.

The NEC defense held Colby-Sawyer to just 27% shooting from the floor, including 23% from beyond three-point range. The Pilgrims held the 51-37 advantage in rebounds and the Chargers turned the ball over 16 times compared to 14 by NEC.

WHAT'S NEXT

New England College will hit the court again on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when they travel to take on conference opponent Lyndon State College.

Colby-Sawyer will be back in action again on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when they travel to battle conference opponent Johnson State College.
