CASTINE, Maine – February 23, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell at Maine Maritime Academy, 68-56, in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament quarterfinal contest on Tuesday night inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Chargers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but the Mariners clawed back with five-straight points from Alayne Felix.
Lexi Iannone splashed a three and
Kristin Ellis added a jumper to give Colby-Sawyer a 9-5 lead at 5:04 in the first quarter. The Chargers took a 12-10 lead into the second quarter.
Mackenzie Vosburgh scored seven points in the first 1:14 of the second quarter to lead the Mariners to an 18-14 lead at 8:46.
Alyssa Keefe hit back-to-back threes to tie the game at 28-28 at 1:47, and following a Megan McLean trey,
Morgan Fogg capitalized on a three-point play to tie it up at 31-31 with 35 seconds to go in the half. Felix added a pair from the line to take a 33-31 lead into the break.
The Mariners came out hot in the third quarter, putting together an eight-point run, highlighted by four-straight points from Bekah Campbell to take a 41-31 lead at 6:42. Maine Maritime built as much as a 16-point lead to open up the fourth quarter, on the way to the 68-56 victory.
Vosburgh led the Mariners with 20 points, on 7-of-11 shooting, six rebounds, two steals, one assist and a block, while Felix added 16 points, a game-high nine rebounds, and two assists, and Campbell added nine points, six rebounds, two assists and a block.
Amanda Calvo led the Chargers with 20 points, two rebounds, two steals and an assist, while
Emmani Robinson, Fogg and Iannone added seven points each.
The Mariners improve to 18-8 and will take on Castleton University on Friday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m., at Husson University in Bangor, Maine. The Chargers conclude their 2015-16 season with a 12-14 overall record.
