NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 8, 2016 – Freshman
Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) scored with 2:16 left to play to lift the Colby-Sawyer field hockey team to a 2-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Thomas College on Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer wins a program record ninth game of the season to improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Chargers have seen an increase in wins every season since becoming varsity in 2011. Thomas falls to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in the NAC. The Terriers will host UMaine-Farmington next Saturday.
Sophomore
Colleen Burke (Orange, Mass.) netted her first collegiate goal in the 12th minute to give Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 lead.
The Terriers found an equalizer in the waning moments of the first half as freshman Miranda Gagne (Winslow, Maine) finished a feed from sophomore Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) with 1:09 left on the clock.
The second half did not feature many scoring chances as each team took a pair of shots.
Alie Jones finally broke through in the 68th minute when she scored her team leading 11th goal off an assist from freshman

Xena Ras (Medfield, Mass.) made four saves in the win, while senior Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine) had five stops for Thomas.
The Chargers held a 10-7 edge in shots, while Thomas had an 8-5 advantage in penalty corners.
