BOSTON, Mass. - October 4, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team was edged by Simmons, 3-2 in double overtime at Daly Field on Tuesday evening. 

The Chargers fall to 8-4 and will host North Atlantic Conference (NAC) oppponent Thomas College on Saturday at noon. Simmons improves to 7-4. 

Junior forward Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) scored 1:41 into the second overtime to give Simmons the win.
 
The teams played an even match with each side attempting 11 shots, though Colby-Sawyer held a 7-2 advantage on penalty corners.
 
Simmons scored the winning goal when junior Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) fired a shot inside the left side of the circle that was turned away by sophomore keeper Xena Ras (Medfield, Mass.), but the rebound landed at the stick of senior midfielder Hailey Bruno-Moulton (South Berwick, Maine) in the right slot. Bruno-Moulton unleashed a shot that was stopped by Ras again, but Saltamartini collected the high rebound after it came out of the air and found Rondeau in front of the cage for a shot inside the left post for the game-winning tally with 13:19 left in the second overtime.
 
The Chargers tied the match with 18:11 remaining in regulation, despite being down two players due to a green and yellow card. Forward Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.) potted her eighth marker of the season when she corralled the ball in a scrum in front of the cage and found the back of the cage to knot the match at 2-2.
 
Colby-Sawyer got on the board first when senior midfielder Allyse Mullen (Wilder, Vt.) sent a cross from just outside the circle to classmate Erika Leach (Barrington, N.H.) for a one-timer in front of the cage the resulted in her third goal of the season with 25:55 to go in the opening half. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the period as the visitors took a 1-0 edge into the intermission.
 
The Sharks were quick to tie the contest in the second stanza, getting a goal from Saltamartini just 2:31 into the half. Rondeau sent a pass from just outside the right side of the circle to Saltamartini, who buried a shot inside the cage for her team-high 11th goal of the year. Simmons took a 2-1 edge less than five minutes later when first year forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) converted a penalty stroke after lifting a shot into the upper left corner of the cage with 27:03 remaining in the second half.
 
Senior goalie Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) earned the victory after making five saves for the Sharks, while Ras registered five stops for the Chargers. Mullen and first year back Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) each recorded defensive saves for Colby-Sawyer as well.
