Women's Soccer Wins Fifth Straight; Defeats UMF 3-1

FARMINGTON, Maine – October 22, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team defeated UMaine-Farmington, 3-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match-up on a rain-soaked Leib Field on Saturday.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 6-8-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the NAC. The Chargers will stay in Maine for a noon kick-off at Thomas on Sunday. UMF drops to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in the NAC. The Beavers host New England College tomorrow.

Senior midfielder Lizzie Jorgensen got the Charges on the board at 13:06. Olivia Kurowski put the initial shot on goal that bounced off the right post and found the waiting Jorgensen who fired it in for her team leading seventh goal.

UMF had its best chance to score in the first half, Ashley Gleason ripped a shot from 35 yards out that looked like it would get over Charger keeper Sam Mitchell's head, but Mitchell recovered in time to deflect the ball into the crossbar for the save.

Nell McQueeney scored in the 38th minute to give Colby-Sawyer the 2-0 at the break.

Mitchell came up big again in the second half when she was able to make a save on a one-on-one chance from Hadlee Yescotte.

Rachel Quaye scored at 55:13 on a charge down the right side to give the Chargers a comfortable 3-0 cushion.

UMF notched its first goal with two minutes left to play in the contest off the foot of Lydia Roy. Roy scored off a rebound of her own penalty shot that was initially saved by keeper Marissa Williams.

Mitchell would save all four shots she faced to record the win, while Williams stopped a pair of shots. Kiana Thompson saved 13 shots in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer outshot UMF 22-13.
