HENNIKER, N.H. – Ocotber 1, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team fell at intrastate rival New England College, 4-1, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on a cool and rainy Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 7-3-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the NAC. New England College will host Clark University tomorrow. The loss drops the Chargers to 1-7-1 overall and 0-2-1 in NAC play. Colby-Sawyer plays at Plymouth State on Wednesday.
New England College opened the scoring in the 17th minute as Jessica Barnum received a cross from Michaela Pomeroy and sent a shot that snuck over Colby-Sawyer keeper
Sam Mitchell. Colby-Sawyer knotted the game at 1-1 in the 40th minute as the Pilgrims failed to clear a corner.
Natalie Shear stopped the clear and ripped a shot into the bottom left corner of the net for her first goal of the season.
The Pilgrims registered what would eventually be the game-winner in the 49th minute as Rachel Thomas sent a free-kick over Mitchell's head. NEC's Emily LePage added two unassisted goals in the 55th and 66th minutes to secure the win.
NEC goalie Mackenzie Meegan finished the game with four saves.
Sam Mitchell allowed four goals and stopped five Pilgrim shots in 70 minutes of action in net, while
Marissa Williams played the final 20 minutes and had one save.
