FARMINGTON, Maine - October 1, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team was edged 1-0 by UMaine-Farmington in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division action on Saturday afternoon.
UMF improves to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer falls to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Chargers will play at Simmons on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
In an evenly played game throughout, neither team could muster much offensive pressure as the defenses kept scoring chances to a minimum.
UMF scored the game's lone goal in the 19th minute off the stick of Emma Spahr.
Paige Viens had a pair of shots on target to lead Colby-Sawyer.
Beavers goalie Patty Smith had three saves to earn the shutout, while Colby-Sawyer's
Xena Ras also finished with three saves.
