Baseball Falls to Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine - April 19, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team fell to Thomas in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader 7-0 and 3-0.

The Chargers return home on Monday to host a pair of games against Lyndon who is coached by former Colby-Sawyer baseball standout and Athletic Hall of Famer, Tom White '09. 

GAME ONE - Thomas 7, Colby-Sawyer 0

The Terriers (12-14, 10-6 NAC) collected 15 hits and starting pitcher Matt Rutherford threw a complete game three-hitter as Thomas blanked the Chargers (0-24, 0-14 NAC) 7-0 in the game one of their doubleheader.

Thomas got going early, scoring three runs in the first two innings. Matt Romandetti drove home a run on a single to center field in the bottom of the first. In the second inning,Christopher Esquivel doubled through the left side, scoring Michael De Los Santos. Two batters later, Joe Quinlan singled home Esquivel to put the Terriers up 3-0.

Four more runs were added by Thomas in the fourth inning to complete the scoring. Quinlan collected two more RBI's on a single to right center that plated both Esquivel and Ryder Kenney. Nik Beeson and Beau Ewton each batted home runs as well.

Quinlan, Beeson, Ewton, De Los Santos and Esquivel all had multi-hit games for the Terriers, while Quinlan drove in three runs. Rutherford went all seven innings and totaled two strikeouts for his second win of the season.

Jeff Dunn had two hits to lead the Charger batters. 

GAME TWO - Thomas 3, Colby-Sawyer 0

Thomas received another solid pitching performance in game two, as Kyle Fletcher went 6.1 innings, allowing just three hits while striking out two in a 3-0 victory.

Anree Benitez led off the bottom of the first with a single through the left side, and would later score on a sacrifice fly by Derek Kane.

Both clubs went scoreless over the next three innings, until the Terriers struck for two in the bottom of the fifth. Beau Ewton drove in a run on a double to left center, plating Nik Beeson on the play. Ewton would later score on a throwing error by the Chargers.

Fletcher earned his second win of the season on the mound. Beeson closed the door in the seventh, recording the final two outs to pick up his second save.

Colby-Sawyer received a pair of hits from Justin Devoid to give him three total on the day. 

Andrew Clay went 3 2/3 innings and gave up one run on three hits for the Chargers.
