BOSTON, Mass. - November 21, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell 64-53 at Suffolk on Saturday afternoon inside Regan Gymnasium.
The Chargers drop to 1-1 and will resume action on Tuesday, December 1 with a home game against Plymouth State. Suffolk improves to 3-1.
Chelsea Campellone hit five field goals and was a perfect 2-of-2 at the line to finish with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Alessandra Quadri went 7-of-15 from the floor for 15 points and added a team-best four assists. Kesley Schiebel and Alexandra Nagri added eight points, respectively, with Schiebel also dishing out four helpers.
The Chargers were led by
Amanda Calvo's 15-point effort, which including a 6-of-15 performance from the field.
Emmani Robinson went 5-for-7 from the floor for 10 points in 14 minutes off the bench.
Marquis MacGlashing collected a team best nine boards and added a pair of blocks.
Colby-Sawyer took a 5-2 edge to open the game as
Lexi Iannone hit an early 3-pointer, but layups from Campellone and Alexandra Clarke gave the Rams their first lead of the day, 6-5. Alessandra broke an 8-all tie with a pull-up jump shot at 3:10 in the opening quarter for a 10-8 margin. The Rams' basket was answered by the Chargers who took a 13-10 lead into the second stanza.
Colby Sawyer used a 10-2 run to stretch its lead to 23-14 with 3:25 remaining in the second period before intermission, but Suffolk rallied and scored 12 of the final 15 points to deadlock the game at 26-26 at half time.
It was a back-and-forth game out of the intermission with Suffolk out in front 37-33 at the midway point. The lead only blossomed more as the host used a 12-2 spurt to take a 49-34 lead at the end of three quarters of action.
The Chargers were able to inch a bit closer in the fourth, but Suffolk held on for the 64-53 victory.
