NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 20, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team fell at Castleton 2-0 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) battle between two undefeated teams on Tuesday evening at Spartan Stadium.
Castleton improves to 9-7 overall and 7-0 in the NAC. The Spartans will conclude the NAC regular season this weekend with home matches against Husson and Maine Maritime.
Colby-Sawyer has its eight game win streak snapped and falls to 10-3-2 overall and 7-1 in the NAC. The loss snaps a streak of 30 straight wins against conference opponents and is the first regular season NAC defeat since a loss to Castleton on October 26, 2011. Chargers will play its regular season finale on Saturday at home against intrastate rival New England College.
The Spartans opened the scoring, less than five minutes into the contest, with a goal from junior Shelby McLenithan (Bennington, Vt.) at 4:42 from senior Mallory Costello (Vernon, N.J.) and junior Nicole Wershoven (Southington, Conn.).
The first half was evenly played despite Castleton taking a 1-0 lead into the break. Each side took five shots with Colby-Sawyer holding a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
The second half began with 12 scoreless minutes before the home team doubled its lead in the 58th minute. Costello sent a ball into the box from the right side to McLenithan who got a foot on the ball while sliding to avoid the Colby-Sawyer keeper.
Neither team could get on the scoreboard for the final half hour as Castleton came away with the 2-0 win.

The Spartans finished the match with a 13-10 edge in shots, while Colby-Sawyer had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
