Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Abbie Sansoucy Scores Twice to Sink New England College, 2-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 24, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team celebrated senior day with a 2-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over New England College, but it was a freshman who stole the show.

Freshman Abbie Sansoucy (Douglas, Mass.) scored the game's first goal at 86:09 and after NEC tied the match seconds later, Sansoucy notched the game-winner at 88:43.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 11-3-2 overall and 8-1 in the NAC. New England College drops to 8-10-1 overall and 5-4 in conference play. Each team will now wait for the postseason pairings to be released by the conference office on Sunday to find out when and where they will be playing in the NAC Tournament.

After more than 86 minutes of scoreless action, the match became chaotic in the final four minutes.

Colby-Sawyer senior Morgan Ekstrom (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was dribbling inside the Pilgrim 18-yard box when she was fouled and awarded a penalty kick. That is when Abbie Sansoucy stepped up and calmly placed the ball into the left side of the net to give Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 lead.5824

The celebration was short lived as the Pilgrims evened the match 13 seconds later on a perfectly placed shot into the upper right corner of the goal by junior Emily Gubbins (Westmoreland, N.Y.).

With overtime looming as time began to tick down, Sansoucy was able to separate herself from the NEC backline and finish into the left side of the net to secure the 2-1 victory.

Senior Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) made a pair of saves in net for the Chargers, while Mackenzie Meegan (Phoenix, Arizona) stopped three shots for New England College.

Prior to today's game, Colby-Sawyer seniors Karley Hamilton, Morgan Ekstrom, Maura Kane (Derry, N.H.), Tallon Tomasi (Williston, Vt.), Dominique Papa (Farmington, Conn.) and Vicky Driscoll (Norwood, Mass.) were honored for their years of dedication to the women's soccer program.
