George Martin Gets 400th Win with 90-34 Victory over Thomas

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 30, 2015 – Colby-Sawyer College women's basketball Head Coach George Martin recorded his 400th career victory after the Chargers defeated Thomas College 90-34 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday evening.

Martin, who is in his 21st season, is the first women's basketball coach in New Hampshire to reach 400 wins. He has led the Chargers to seven conference championships, seven NCAA tournaments and has been named conference Coach of the Year five times. Martin ranks in the top 35 of active Division III women's basketball coaches in wins and winning percentage.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 11-7 overall and 8-3 in the NAC. The Chargers host UMaine-Farmington at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Thomas falls to 2-16 overall and 1-10 in the conference. The Terriers travel to New England College tomorrow for a 3:00 p.m. tip.

The Chargers led from the opening tip and played stout defense throughout the game holding the Terriers to 15.5 percent shooting. Colby-Sawyer finished the game shooting 43.8 percent from the floor and an impressive 57.1 percent (12-21) from beyond the arc. The 12 made three-pointers is tied for third most in a single game.

Sophomore Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) led all players with 17 points. She was 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and has made at least one three-pointer in 15 of 18 games this season. Senior Kelsey Bragdon (Wells, Maine) had 12 points and a team best seven rebounds. Senior Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Sarah Donnelly (Medford, Mass.) added 10 points apiece. Freshmen Alli Barrett (Kittery, Maine) and Morgan Fogg (Sanford, Maine) each had nine points.

The Terriers were led by junior Katie McAllister (Pittston, Maine). She was 10-of-12 from the free throw line and finished with 14 points, four assists and three steals. Junior Ashleigh Gagne (Waterville, Maine) had 11 points, while freshman Olivia Brown (North Haven, Maine) brought down a game-high 11 rebounds.
