Women's Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match on Saturday

BIDDEFORD, Maine - September 6, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team won both of its matches on Saturday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Forum. The Chargers began the afternoon with a 3-0 sweep over Lasell with scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-15. Colby-Sawyer followed with a 3-0 sweep over the University of New England by scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-21.

The Chargers improve to 4-2 and will host Rivier on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Colby-Sawyer vs. Lasell
Stephanie Vecchio led all players with 12 kills for the Colby-Sawyer offense that hit an impressive .303 in the 3-0 victory. Jackie Keating added eight kills on .313 hitting, while Leah Drolet hit .333 with five kills. 

Laura Smolinski had another solid match setting her teammates up with 33 assists. Lexi Strong was the lone player in the match to reach double figure digs with 17. 

Colby-Sawyer vs. UNE
The Chargers received 11 kills apiece from Vecchio and Keating en route to their second sweep of the afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer also got nine kills from sophomore Gabrielle Rodriguez, 35 assists from junior Laura Smolinski, and four aces out of senior Sarah Hannon. Four players reached double figures in digs for Colby-Sawyer -- Keating (12), first-year Lexi Strong (11), Hannon (10), and Rodriguez (10).
