Volleyball Wins Two at Granite State Challenge

NASHUA, N.H. - September 20, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team won two more games at the Granite State Challenge on Saturday to become Co-Champions along with Keene and Rivier, who also went 3-1. 

The Chargers improve to 10-4 and will play at Endicott on Thursday evening. Laura Smolinski was named Co-MVP, while Lexi Strong was named to the All-Tournament team. 

Colby-Sawyer began the day with a 3-0 sweep of Rivier. 25-19, 25-20, and 25-16.
 
Colby-Sawyer was led by Gabrielle Rodriguez who laced seven kills with Jackie Keating, Leah Drolet and Stephanie Vecchio adding six kills each. Laura Smolinski led the game with 29 assists and Lexi Strong had 15 digs in the three set win.

McCormack led the team with 9 kills and Silverman knocked down 7 in the loss. O'Reilly added another 27 assists with Trevino leading the team in digs with 13.
 
The Chargers saw nine kills from Stephanie Vecchio (Shelter Island, N.Y.) and five kills each from Gabrielle Rodriguez and Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.) to lead the way to the 25-21, 25-7, 25-16 sweep of Daniel Webster.
 
Sarah Hannon (N. Falmouth, Mass.) helped the Chargers' cause with five aces while Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) notched 27 assists and Lexi Strong (Somersworth, N.H.) finished with a team-high 12 digs.
 
DWC was paced by seven kills from Warrington, who pulled in a match-high 14 digs. Amanda Gendron (Mont Vernon, N.H.) added six kills, Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) registered 15 assists and Belli chipped in with eight digs.
 
Colby-Sawyer hit .244 overall to -.054 for the hosts and finished with decisive advantages in kills (32-18) assists (29-18), aces (11-5) and blocks (10-1).
