Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 19, 2014 – Colby-Sawyer College hosted the first day of competition in the 2014 Granite State Challenge on Friday at the Hogan Sports Center. Each of the five competing teams, which included Colby-Sawyer, Daniel Webster, Keene State, Plymouth State and Rivier, played two matches and will finish the round robin tomorrow at Daniel Webster and Rivier.
Rivier and Keene State were 2-0, Colby-Sawyer went 1-1, Plymouth and Daniel Webster were 0-2.
Colby-Sawyer 3, Plymouth 0 – 25, 18, 26-24, 25-12The Chargers began the evening with a sweep of Plymouth. Colby-Sawyer hit .264 as a team and was led by a 12-kill, 14-dig effort from senior
Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.).
Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) also had a double-double of 30 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore
Leah Drolet (Riverside, R.I.) added five kills and four block assists.
Plymouth was led by senior Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, N.J.). She hit .345 and had a match-high 13 kills. Sophomore Mikki Taffe (Sandown, N.H.) added seven kills. Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) collected 18 assists and six digs.
Keene 3, Colby-Sawyer 1 – 25-27, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20The only match of the evening to go more than three sets featured 29 ties and 11 lead changes. After dropping the first set 27-25, Keene Rallied to win the next three sets.The Owls had three players reach double figure kills and four with double digit dig totals. Junior Angela Silveri (Poughquag, N.Y.) recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Rachel Lamica (Malone, N.Y.) hit .476 and had 12 kills, while Madeline Nossif (Portsmouth, N.H.) added 11 kills and six total blocks. Leslie Hearns (Bedford, N.Y.) tallied a match best 27 digs. Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) also had a double-double with 22 assists and 13 digs.Colby-Sawyer was led by a 14-kill performance from sophomore Gabrielle Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.). She also added 13 digs. Junior Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) had a double-double of 44 assists and 14 digs. Sophomore Leah Drolet (Riverside, R.I.) hit .368 and had eight kills. Senior Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.) registered a double-double of 11 kills and 16 digs. Rivier 3, Daniel Webster 0 – 25 18, 25-19, 25-17The Raiders improved to 7-4 with a 3-0 sweep over Daniel Webster. Rivier was led by sophomore Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.). She had a team best nine kills and added eight digs. Junior setter Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded a match-high 29 assists and collected eight digs. Sophomore Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit .417, had seven kills and three total blocks.
Daniel Webster dropped to 1-7 and was led by freshman Amanda Gendron's (Claymont, Del.) six kills. Freshman Courtney Sheyenne Warrington (Canton, Texas) contributed five kills and three aces.
Rivier 3, Plymouth 0 – 25-17, 25-13, 25-19Rivier earned its second 3-0 sweep of the evening behind a strong offensive attack. The Raiders hit .452 and were led by Lauren Silverman's (Chelmsford, Mass.) nine kills. Sophomore Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) hit .875 and had seven kills. Junior Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) also had seven kills for the Raiders.
Plymouth was led by Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, N.J.). She had a team best six kills. Junior setter Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) had 19 assists, three kills and three digs for the Panthers.
Keene 3, Daniel Webster 0 – 25-10, 25-16, 25-17The Owls swept the Eagles in their first contest of the night. Keene received a balanced offensive output from its attackers on the front line. Junior Madeline Nossif (Portsmouth, N.H.) led all players with eight kills and hit .545. Junior Angela Silveri (Poughquag, N.Y.) contributed six kills and a pair of aces. Junior Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) had a match best 13 assists, to go along with two kills and six digs.
Daniel Webster received five kills from freshman Amanda Gendron (Mont Vernon, N.H.). Senior Bree Cosgrove (Raymond, N.H.) collected a team best nine assists.
