Volleyball Wins Two at Ocean State Classic

BRISTOL, R.I. - September 13, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team won a pair of matches on Saturday, in the final day of action at the Ocean State Classic hosted by Roger Williams. The Chargers defeated Wheaton 3-1 and Salve Regina 3-1. 

The Chargers won the Wheaton match by scores of 25-19, 16-25, 25-18, and 28-26. Colby-Sawyer finished the day with a 3-1 win over Salve Regina with scores of 25-22, 25-21, 17-25, and 25-21. Stephanie Vecchio and Laura Smolinski were named to the All-Tournament team. 

In the win over Wheaton, the Chargers attack was led by Vecchio's 16 kills. She hit an impressive .419. Gabrielle Rodriguez also reached double figure kills with 10 and added nine digs. Leah Drolet collected 11 digs. Brenna Walczak registered five kills and three solo blocks. 

Vecchio collected 11 more kills in the match against Salve Regina. Jackie Keating also had 11 kills in the victory. Drolet had four blocks, while Laura Smolinski recorded a double-double of 38 assists and 16 digs. 

The Chargers are off until Friday when they will host Plymouth and Keene on the first day of the Granite State Challenge.
