NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 10, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team dropped the first set, but won the next three to defeat the visiting Raiders of Rivier, 3-1 at the David L. Coffin Field House on Wednesday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 18-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-8.  

Colby-Sawyer ran its winning streak to five straight, improving to 5-2. The Chargers travel to Bristol, Rhode Island on Friday for a two-day tournament. Rivier drops its third straight and falls to 3-4. The Raiders host Emerson and Regis on Saturday.

The visitors won the first set in convincing fashion after jumping out to 10-4 lead. Rivier held at least a six point edge for the rest of the set, which ended on a Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) kill.

The second set was back and forth and featured eight ties and five lead changes. Rivier raced out to its biggest lead of the set (7-3) on a kill from Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.). Colby-Sawyer received a kill from Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.) to knot the score at 22-22. The Chargers would end the set on a 3-1 run capped by a Gabrielle Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) kill.  

Colby-Sawyer held a comfortable advantage for most of the third set, but a Pisecco kill brought the Raiders all the way back to tie the set at 17-17. The score was tied again at 21-21 when Colby-Sawyer closed the set with four straight points to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Chargers won the match after running away with the fourth set 25-8. After a couple of early ties, Colby-Sawyer's offense took over the match en route to the 3-1 victory.

Keating recorded a match best 16 kills and added 15 digs. Stephanie Vecchio (Shelter Island, N.Y.) also reached double figure kills with 13. Lexi Strong (Somersworth, N.H.) collected a match-high 25 digs. Rodriguez added nine kills and 10 digs.

Rivier was led by Lauren Silverman's (Chelmsford, Mass.) eight kills. Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) tallied seven kills and 12 digs. Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) hit .538 and had seven kills, eight digs and 31 assists.
