GUAYNABO City, Puerto Rico – December 29, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell to Edgewood College, 63-44 on the final day of the 2014 San Juan Shootout.
Colby-Sawyer drops to 5-4 and will return to action on January 6 with a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest at Castleton. Edgewood improves to 4-8 and will travel to Alverno College on January 3 to resume Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action at 7:00 p.m.
Jessica Shenkel led the Chargers with 11 points, while
Lexi Iannone poured in eight points.
Kristin Ellis and
Amanda Calvo added six apiece.
Shenkel scored the game's first basket with a three-pointer in the first minute. Edgewood then responded with a 7-2 run to go in front by a bucket. The Chargers trailed 17-13 with 11 minutes to play in the frame until a pair of treys by freshman
Amanda Calvo sandwiched an Eagles three-pointer to bring the Chargers to within one at 20-19. During the next four minutes, Edgewood pushed its lead to as much as 11 with a 12-3 run. Colby-Sawyer finished the half with a 5-2 spurt capped by a
Lexi Iannone trey, but entered the locker room trailing 37-29.
The teams exchanged baskets in the first few minutes of the second frame, but the Chargers' offense then went stagnant. Edgewood scored 11 straight points and held Colby-Sawyer scoreless in a nine minute stretch to take a 55-40 lead. The Eagles went on to win 63-44.
