WORCESTER, Mass. - November 1, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team won its eighth and ninth straight matches after sweeping a tri-match at Clark University on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers came from behind in both matches en route to a 3-2 win over Emerson and a 3-1 victory over Clark.
Colby-Sawyer took the first match over the Lions by scores of 25-18, 17-25, 12-25, 25-15, and 15-10. The Chargers then defeated the Cougars 18-25, 25-14, 25-11, and 25-15. Colby-Sawyer concludes the regular season at 25-8, which is the most wins since the team had 28 back in 2007. The Chargers will return to action on Friday as they host the North Atlantic Conference semifinals against Lyndon at 6:00 p.m. at the Hogan Sports Center.
Jackie Keating recorded a match best 18 kills in the win over Emerson.
Stephanie Vecchio also reached double figures with 10 kills and added 12 digs.
Lexi Strong had a match-high 18 digs, while
Laura Smolinski collected 45 assists and eight digs.
In the 3-1 victory over Clark, the Chargers were led by
Stephanie Vecchio's 12 kills. Vecchio recorded her second double-double of the day with 10 digs.
Gabrielle Rodriguez added 11 kills on .391 hitting.
Leah Drolet contributed nine kills and three blocks.
Lexi Strong had 22 digs and three aces.
Laura Smolinski eclipsed 40 assists again with a match best 41.
