NEW HAMPTON, N.H. - October 8, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team won its third straight match by a 1-0 score with a victory over Plymouth State at the New Hampton School Wednesday evening.
Sophomore
Kelsey Campbell (Upton, Mass.) scored a goal less than four minutes after the opening kick-off that stood as the game-winner for the Chargers.
The Chargers are 4-0-1 in their last five games, pushing them back to the .500 mark at 5-5-1 overall, while PSU suffered its fifth one-goal loss of the season and falls to 3-7 overall.
Campbell tallied her second of the year on a header off a corner kick by senior
Sarah Little (Scarborough, Maine) at the 3:37 mark. Little served the ball from the left corner and Campbell headed it in from the far post.
The tough defensive battle allowed for just 15 total shots between the two teams, 10 by the visitors. Colby-Sawyer had a narrow 3-2 edge in the first half and a 7-3 margin after the break.
The closest either team got to scoring came late in the second half as the Chargers were attempting to add an insurance goal. Little put one of her three shots on goal that got past the keeper and was headed for the back of the net but PSU junior defender Leah Swanson (Atkinson, N.H.) knocked the ball away to prevent a goal.
Junior
Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) made five saves to post the clean sheet for Colby-Sawyer, while junior Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, N.H.) made five saves for PSU in the setback.
PSU is back to Little East Conference action Saturday when Rhode Island College comes to New Hampton School for an 11:30 a.m. kick-off. Colby-Sawyer returns home to host Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference match-up at 3:30 p.m.
