NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 6, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team received a goal from senior Hannah Coggins (West Newbury, Mass.) with 7:32 left to play to lift the Chargers past Regis, 1-0 at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field on Monday afternoon.  

The Chargers (7-5) will host North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe Thomas on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Regis (2-8) will host Mount Ida on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

The first half was played to a stalemate, despite Colby-Sawyer holding a 10-3 edge in shots. The best chance to score came when Colby-Sawyer was awarded a penalty stroke with 1:13 left to play in the frame. The Chargers failed to convert the try with a shot that was lifted over the cage, which brought the contest into halftime at 0-0.

Each team had a couple of chances to go in front early in the second half but all attempts were thwarted by the opposing goalie.

The Chargers finally broke through with 7:32 left in the second half. After an initial shot by sophomore Allyse Mullen (Wilder, Vt.) was saved by Regis keeper Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.), senior Hannah Coggins (West Newbury, Mass.) fired the rebound into the back of the cage with her first tally of the season.

Colby-Sawyer goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) finished with four saves, while Heck kept the Pride in the contest with 12 stops.

Colby-Sawyer finished the contest with a 23-5 edge in shots and a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners.
